In a manufacturing company, information flows between purchasing, the warehouse, the shop floor, quality and accounting. When everyone keeps their own Excel file, stock gaps, delays and approximate costs become normal. An ERP puts everyone on the same data, provided it is rolled out in the right order.

Step 1: make items and stock reliable

Everything starts with a clean item master: codes, units of measure, variants, suppliers, locations. Then run a full stock count and enter opening balances. Without reliable stock, no requirements calculation holds.

  • warehouses and locations, including transfers between sites;
  • serial number or batch tracking, with expiry dates if your business needs them;
  • reorder levels per item.

Step 2: describe how you make things

The bill of materials (list of components) and the routing (sequence of operations and work centres) are the heart of production. Start with your best-selling products, validate them with the shop floor, then extend.

Step 3: run work orders

Each work order consumes components, uses work centres and produces finished goods. Tracked in real time, it shows progress, actual consumption and variances. Material requirements planning (MRP) comes next: it calculates what to buy or make from orders and stock.

Step 4: build quality in

Inspection plans per item or operation, incoming inspection before stock entry, non-conformities and corrective actions: quality must live in the same system as production, so traceability is complete, from the supplier batch to the delivered product.

Step 5: calculate the real cost

For imported materials, the real cost includes customs duties, freight and insurance. An ERP allocates these landed costs to the items received, then includes them in the cost of finished goods. That is the basis of a sound pricing policy.

Points specific to Tunisia

  • withholding tax calculated on supplier and customer payments;
  • VAT at 19%, 13% and 7% depending on the product, and the monthly return;
  • electronic invoicing through El Fatoora for the transactions concerned;
  • payroll with CNSS and IRPP for production teams.

Mistakes to avoid

  • launching everything at once: start with stock and purchasing, then add production;
  • migrating data that hasn't been cleaned;
  • forgetting the shop floor: operators need simple data entry;
  • neglecting training for team leaders.

With Nexora ERP

Nexora ERP covers this path with its Inventory module (multi-warehouse, serials and batches, replenishment), Purchasing (landed costs allocated, withholding tax), Manufacturing MRP (bills of materials, routings, work orders tracked in real time, capacity planning, subcontracting) and Quality (inspection plans, non-conformities, corrective actions). The Production module relies on ERP Base, which handles stock, purchasing and accounting. For a quote that fits your plant, contact us or try the platform for 14 days on erp.nexora.tn.
